Compare the 2017 and 2018 Hickory Crawdads team card sets. See which roster, price, and era fits your collection best.
Quick answer
Choose the 2017 Team Set if you want a deeper roster of early-career prospects at a slightly lower price. Pick the 2018 Team Set if you prefer a midseason snapshot with more recent names like Sam Huff and Bubba Thompson.
Roster depth and prospect value
Both sets capture a full midseason roster of the Hickory Crawdads, but the 2017 set includes more players—over 30 names compared to the 2018 set. That extra depth can matter if you are tracking players who moved through the system quickly or want a broader snapshot of that era.
Price difference is small but real
The 2017 set is listed at USD 6.70 (down from a catalog comparison price of USD 10.00), while the 2018 set is USD 7.00 (also reduced from USD 10.00). The 30-cent gap is negligible for a single purchase but could add up if you are buying multiple sets for a complete collection.
Trade-offs at a glance
- 2017 Team Set: More players (30+), lower price (USD 6.70), earlier prospect class. Best for collectors who want volume and a wider historical snapshot.
- 2018 Team Set: Slightly higher price (USD 7.00), smaller roster, but includes more recent names like Sam Huff and Bubba Thompson. Best for fans focused on players who gained traction in the late 2010s.
- Both sets: Both are midseason releases from Choice, both originally priced at USD 10.00, and both cover the full active roster at the time. If budget allows, owning both gives you a two-year continuum of the Crawdads farm system.
